The bushes are made slightly over size, and when they are pressed into the correct size hole the bore closes to the nominal size for the shaft, this is enough to retain the bush.

Details142 photos. The standard internal spindle taper for Dore Westbury is 2 Morse Taper, so any tooling for that will do, plus a drawbar of course to match the tooling. If the machine has been built to design spec. there will be a Myford size threaded nose on the spindle end which can be used to hold a collet chuck.
Details2 photos. Hi Guys, I have just renovated a Dore Westbury Milling machine. It does all seem okay and working although I have no collet chuck at the moment. However does anyone have any instructions for these machines. Although the "before renovation" state looks worse than it was. There was no grease in the drive gears below the pulleys.

DetailsThe model is called Dore-Westbury Mk2 but there does not seem to be much info around on how to convert it into a CNC mill. There is a good possibility that this was made from a kit. It is a nice little machine for that type of use. As far as a CNC conversion I haven't heard much either.
DetailsI'm building a milling machine using the top bit of a Dore Westbury and an Axminster CT1 compound table, bolted to a 20mm thick steel plate. The Dore Westbury has a hollow round column, 60mm diameter, with a thread to raise/lower the head. The problem I have is the column I have is rather short, it seems to have snapped then been filed, and it ...
DetailsHi frank, thanks for stopping by. Yeh, the Dore Westbury is indeed a unique mill, not least as it was originally sold in kit form, which comprised a set of plans, a book containing all the machining procedures and notes, a set of partly machined castings and all the materials to make the various levers and such.

DetailsInstead I found the photo of the set up of cutting the Quill being held in vee blocks supported by three face angle plate and done on what looks like a Dore Westbury mill. So much for me wanting to modify his or MES's Kennet tool and cutter grinder which really could do with bringing into the 21st Century.
DetailsThe motor was mounted on the Dore Westbury and the wiring temporarily hooked up for a test run. All went well at first. The combination of the 3-speed pulley drive and the variable speed motor gives a range from dead slow to whirling round far too fast for the spindle bearings.
